AN investigation has been launched after a man died in a Hampshire street.

Police are calling for witnesses after a 52-year-old man from Bournemouth died on Belmont Road, Chandler's Ford.

Hampshire Police confirmed officers were called to the scene at around 6.30pm on January 20, after reports of a collision between a Mercedes and a parked Ford Transit.

They said the man died at the scene but the cause of the death has not been revealed yet.

Richard Brocklesby, 81, retired, from Chandler's Ford, lives nearby and said that Belmont Road was cordoned off between the junction with Leigh Road and the one with Cox Row.

He said: " The road was closed off for over two hours. Officers took pictures of a car and somebody said somebody in the car had a heart attack and had taken his shirt off. I saw the flashing lights from my window and I could see three big vehicles."

Another resident, who lives nearby but does not wish to be named, said the driver was driving on Belmont Road when the car went into the back of a parked Transit.

He said: " He looks like he was driving and pulled over the parked Transit on the other side of the road. Other residents took him out of the car and tried to resuscitate him."

Residents said the forensic team was also at the scene along with two ambulances and and two police cars.

It is understood the road was reopened at around 9pm.
