AN ICONIC building in the town centre is currently clad with scaffolding in preparation for repair work on a weather vane.
Guildhall has had scaffolding built around it over the past week ahead of the repair work being done.
The vane is being restored due to general “wear and tear due to old age” and the 19th century building has to have the scaffolding standing ready for when it will be re-fitted.
A Test Valley Borough spokesperson said the “S” arm had fallen off the vane in high winds and a historical repair had also failed.
They added: “The work has been subject to a full listed building application and the repairs are currently being carried by a local metal working workshop.
“The repairs and restoration work should be complete over the next couple of weeks but it’s difficult to put a precise timescale on this kind of work.
“Once the repair work is complete the weather vane will be replaced and the scaffolding removed.”
