A COMMUNITY campaign has been launched to build a new playground in Test Valley.

Residents in Lockerley and East Dean say they have never had a play area for children, and have begun a project to have one built.

A series of fundraising events will take place in Lockerley over the coming months in a bid to raise £60,000 needed to prepare the land and install the equipment.

The Lockerley and East Dean playground committee is aiming to build the area on Jubilee Field.

More than £6,000 has been raised from donations around the community, and the committee says it is in the process of applying for grants.

Resident and committee member Claudia Rogers said: "We're so excited to finally have this amazing opportunity to have a playground for Lockerley and East Dean and we're incredibly grateful for all the help and support we have already had.

"We will be holding lots of competitions and fundraising events over the coming months and would love to hear from anyone who can help, or who wishes to make a donation."

Lockerley Village Hall will be hosting a concert based on songs and sketches on June 30 in a bid to raise further funds.

Tickets are priced at £10 and can be purchased from Lockerley Green Stores.
