TWO ROMSEY men caused £2,000 worth of damage at a Hampshire hotel by trying to set fire to the walls, bed and carpet.

On June 11, James Jessop, Tahirul Tarafdar, both from Romsey, along with Neil Cleal of Southampton, entered the hotel.

The three then, jointly, tried to burn the walls, a table, sofa bed and carpet worth £2,000 belonging to the Hilton Ageas Bowl in Eastleigh.

All three pleaded guilty to the offences at Southampton Magistrates Court.

James Aaron Jessop, 23, of Broadwater Road, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to a community order and ordered to pay £500 compensation.

Tahirul Tarafdar, 23, from Mercer Way, also pleaded guilty having changed his plea prior to a trail. On top of a 12-week suspended prison sentence, he was made to pay £620 court costs and £115 victim surcharge.

His offences also included fraud, by using a credit card belonging to someone else, to book two different taxis, which totalled £84.

Neil Junior Cleal, 22, of Victoria Road in Woolston, pleaded guilty at Southampton Magistrates Court on March 20 along with the other two men.

A community order was put in place for Cleal, who was also ordered to pay £500 compensation and an £85 victim surcharge.

As well as that, he was made to pay £85 court costs and ordered to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work.
