WINCHESTER City were unable to deliver a result in their last home game of the Evo-Stik South West season – but it wasn’t for want of trying by Craig Davis's men.

Simba Mlambo gave the Citizens an 18th-minute lead against play-off chasers Cirencester Town and Winchester had two penalties saved – one from Adam Tomasso and another from skipper Jamie Barron - by Ciren keeper Matt Wieczorek.

Yet it was the visitors who emerged victorious, 2-1, thanks to Ben Whitehead’s 42nd league goal of the season and a 58th-minute Alexandru Albert winner.

Salisbury, already assured of promotion in second spot, saw off Bideford 1-0 in front of a 660 Ray Mac crowd.

Former Winchester skipper Stuart Green proved the difference between the sides, hitting a 15th-minute winner following good work by Zack Kotwica, who later hit the bar.

It was Green’s 23rd league goal of the campaign and his 30th in total.

Wimborne Town are heading for the play-offs after a 4-1 home victory over Paulton Rovers.

After two early goals from Toby and Luke Holmes, Paulton’s Josh Morgan-Williams brought it back to 2-1.

But prolific marksman Toby Holmes then struck again for the Magpies, leaving sub Lee Francis to wrap things up.
