A COUNCIL leader has vowed to bring a "scumbag" who fly-tipped at a Romsey cemetery, to justice.

Test Valley Borough Council has begun an investigation after rubbish was illegally dumped at Woodley Cemetery, with leader Phil North pointing to recent successful fly-tip prosecutions in the fight to find those responsible.

The dumping was reported to the authority on Friday (April 20), and the council has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

The cemetery is operated by the council, and cllr North said he 'would love' to find bring those responsible to justice.

He said: "What sort of person fly-tips in a cemetery?

"Test Valley Borough Council has recently been successful in prosecuting fly-tippers who dump their rubbish illegally in our borough and I would love to be able to bring this particular scumbag to justice.

According to the council, the fly-tip at the cemetery, which is on Braishfield Road in Romsey, happened between 1.50pm and 2.10pm.

Environmental portfolio holder, cllr Graham Stallard, said: "The council is following up on several lines of enquiry regarding the fly-tip and is undertaking a full investigation.

"We can confirm that the fly-tip took place on Friday April 20 between 1.50pm and 2.10pm.

"This type of crime can have a significant impact on the local environment and we would ask anyone with information relating to the incident to call us on 01264 368000 or email info@testvalley.gov.uk."

Borough residents took to social media to express their anger. One person who said she has family at the cemetery said they were 'so disgusted', as it is usually kept "beautifully".

Deputy leader at the council, Nick Adams-King, also said the action was "disgusting".
