THIS Sunday, the centre of Romsey will come to a halt for the carnival procession.

The start of carnival week has begun with the bed race returning, and at 4.30pm on Sunday, Romsey royalty will travel through the town.

Starting at Greatbridge Industrial Estate, a number of roads will be closed.

They include Greatbridge Road, Duttons Road, Malmesbury Road and Alma Road before it reaches the centre of town.

The Hundred, Market Place, Church Street and Bell Street will all be shut off.

The roads in the centre of town will reopen by 7.30pm at the latest.

Chairman of Romsey Carnival, John Ray said: “This year, the carnival profits will be given to Romsey Co-Responders and Art Prescription, so please give generously. Entries will still be accepted up to 3.30pm if they wished to be judged.”
