Local charities will benefit from Broughton’s second Pageant of Transport held last Sunday. Despite clashing with the World Cup final and the Men’s Final at Wimbledon, the pageant proved a huge spectacular and now looks set to become an annual event in the vintage and classic car calendar.

It is difficult to highlight the star of the show but the 1914 Ford Model T vied for the top slot. British-built and in immaculate condition, it was manufactured at Birmingham and underlined Henry Ford’s drive for economy when the owner revealed the original floorboards, still in position, to be made from old wooden packing-cases! At the other end of the spectrum, one star was a rare AC Cobra. A number of car enthusiasts were concerned that it was a replica kit-car, but it was proven to be a genuine example. Later in the afternoon, the owner invited members of the public to bid for a place on a road-run around the local countryside.

For sheer strength from a bygone age, two 1929 Foden steam-powered lorries also took visitors for a ride, just so long as they helped in keeping the fire raging!

Pageant organizer, Pete Nightingale, praised the 150+ owners who brought their cars to Broughton and for offering the public an enjoyable alternative to the sporting events held elsewhere.
