PARISH chiefs at Lockerley have finally convinced highway bosses there's a need for more signage warning of height restrictions at a rail bridge in the village.

Borough highway officials have agreed to install a sign on the B3084 near Mottisfont & Dunbridge station warning lorry drivers the railbridge at Lockerley's Romsey Road has a 12ft height restriction. Warning signs have already gone up on other approach roads to the bridge at Broughton and in Lockerley itself.

It follows a campaign by the parish authority for improved signs after problems with large lorries trying to negotiate the low bridge. HGV drivers have had to reverse back along the narrow Romsey Road to the Butt's Green junction and then find another route around the height restrictions.
