ALTHOUGH Winchester's winter of rugby discontent continued at Browns Land last Saturday, there was more than enough in their play to suggest improvement is on the way.
Having gone behind to a try from Tony Penny inside five minutes, the visitors came roaring back in fine style against Effingham, largely due to the strength and technique of their pack, in which front row man Lloyd Staszkiewicz was outstanding.
With his troops ever on the forward march, scrum half Rob Prestidge grew in authority and most of Winchester's best play began to be filtered through his hands.
However, despite some early strong play, it was Effingham that scored the opening try of the game and went on to edge home 17-15.
