Children from year 7 and 8 at Romsey’s Stroud School were blissfully unaware that their travel plans were being affected by the Icelandic volcano as they enjoyed Barcelona during the Easter holidays.

They were due to fly back last Friday but after hasty arrangements managed to secure a coach through Spain and France to Calais and ferry crossing to Dover, arriving back in Romsey at midnight on Saturday, following a 27-hour coach journey.

‘The journey was very tiring but the children were outstanding throughout the ordeal,’ commented Headmaster, Alastair Dodds.

“Compared to many we were lucky to get home so quickly and only 36 hours behind schedule.’ The children made the most of their extra day with volleyball on the beach at Sitges and a visit to Casa Batillo, one of Gaudi’s famous buildings in Barcelona.”
