TWO trapped pigeons were rescued from the roof of a building in Romsey Market Place on Wednesday evening.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service rural safety officer and the RSPCA were involved in the mission to free the birds from the netting – intended to stop pigeons getting on the roof.
Police closed the road through Market Place while the fire service’s aerial platform ladder was drafted in to allow rescuers to get close to the pigeons and cut the netting.
Both birds survived their ordeal.
A fire and rescue spokesperson said it was unsafe for the rescue team to use normal ladders to get onto the roof, so specialised equipment was brought in.
The spokesperson added that it cost on average £250 to respond to incidents of this nature.
