VILLAGERS produced a bumper crop for King’s Somborne Flower Show and Fete.
Saturday’s flower and veggie show was split into 95 categories and spread over three classes.
And the village hall was transformed into a blaze of eye-catching blooms including huge dahlias and sweet peas.
Tables were filled with mouth-watering fruit and vegetables including raspberries, gooseberries, blackberries, carrots, cabbages, tomatoes, beetroot and potatoes.
Village correspondent Dawn Harrison said: “Points definitely make prizes in this show as exhibitors with the highest points per class were awarded cups along with the best in class.”
Besides the flower and vegetable categories of the show there were floral art, arts and craft, cookery and children’s classes.
There was also a traditional village fete on the recreation ground and attractions included a bouncy castle, children’s sports, maypole dancing by King’s Somborne Primary School children, a ventriloquist, plant and other stalls. Show and fete secretary Pollyann Monk said: “We had a really good show with lots of fruit and vegetables and a wonderful number of entries in the flower classes. Standards were very high. The fete was also very well attended and this year we had a 20ft high mobile climbing frame which is new to the Test Valley and the children and adults loved it.”
