Boy stabbed in head at birthday party

A BOY was stabbed in the head at a 16th birthday party in Romsey.

The 17-year-old sustained an injury to the back of his head after a fight started outside the house where the party was taking place following the arrival of gatecrashers.

Witnesses reported seeing a 2in to 3in knife shortly before the stabbing.

Police were called to the incident, in Old Salisbury Lane, Romsey, just after midnight on Saturday.

About 60 people had been invited to the fancy dress event, and adults were said to be present.

The boy, from Romsey, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with what police described as a cut to the back of his head, for which he needed stitches, but he was later discharged.

A 15-year-old boy from Southampton has been charged with affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

He appeared at Southampton Youth Court yesterday and will next appear on May 1.

An 18-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, and a 16-year-old boy from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, but have both been bailed until May 24 pending further inquiries.
