THIEVES have stolen a distinctive purple banner advertising a village fete.

The banner, valued at £90, was put up last Thursday (May 3) on railings by the war memorial in Awbridge. It was last seen at 8pm that evening.

Village fete organiser, Peter Allen, said that at first he thought children may have been responsible and the banner would be found chucked in a field or hedge nearby, but a search of the area turned up nothing.

Mr Allen said he would offer a reward for any information which led to conviction of the thief.

Anyone with any information should call Romsey police, on 101.
