TVBC cabinet votes for Romsey office sell-off

Test Valley Borough Council cabinet members have voted unanimously to sell off the authority’s Duttons Road offices in Romsey and move some staff to a customer services unit at the former magistrates building in the town.

The cost-cutting proposal will mean around 65 staff will have to relocate to TVBC’s Beech Hurst office at Andover Watched by angry members of staff union, Unison, wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the message ‘We’d rather be in Romsey’, the five cabinet members present, none representing wards in the south of the borough, agreed the controversial plan on Wednesday evening.

The proposal will now go before the full council today (Friday) at a special meeting at Duttons Road, from 5pm.

All the more reason to get rid of TVBC altogether and let the Town Council run Romsey, contracting services in. The rift between Northern and Southern Councillors has been there ever since the damned Council was formed. Time to remove this ridiculous layer of Government for ever, IMHO !!!

I wonder if we might be better off joining with Eastleigh. The Romsey area will be considered the poor relation of TVBC.

Cornwall appears to survive, having removed the entire layer of Borough Councils some years ago.

Ho-Hum - I can assure you Carr and his northern cronies ALWAYS HAS considered the Romsey area as the poor relation of his TVBC. Romsey Rapids was the last decent deal we got from TVBC; that was 23 years ago and is in dire need of a facelift now! Maybe it's the price we pay for voting too many argumentative Lib Dem Councillors onto his Council !!!
