THE Whitchurch Mayor’s Charity Concert to commemorate the centenary of the First World War held at Testbourne Community School was a huge success.

Music on the night was provided by the Military Wives from Middle Wallop and the Bella Voce Choir from Testbourne Community School, who performed to the crowd of over 250 people with money also being raised for young people in the town.

The school sports hall was transformed into a military theme for the evening with an array of flags and an exhibition of military memorabilia put together by Cllr Lt Col Andy Jordan, with the help of the local Army Cadet Force.

Whitchurch Town Council Mayor Cllr John Clark said: “Thank you all so very much in helping Rosemary to realise her vision and for helping us to achieve our aim to raise funds for the young people of Whitchurch.

“The entertainment provided by the Military Wives and Bella Voce came together for a rousing finale of wartime songs and their performances were just fantastic. Judging by the comments made by the departing audience, the evening was fully appreciated by all.

“In addition, our thanks cannot express our gratitude for the support from Testbourne Community School, including their young technicians, various members of staff within the performing arts department, the caretaker and others.

“Also sincere thanks to all other helpers who managed the car-parking, raffle, refreshments, door and much more.

Last, but not least, a huge thank you to the local businesses who supported us either financially or donated a raffle prize to help us reach our goal.

“Without this support and the total dedication of Rosemary – the Mayoress – the concert would not have taken place.

“Altogether it was a very long day, but culminated in a truly remarkable evening.”
