LUDGERSHALL Garden Club Flower Show on Saturday has been described as “the best show” by organisers.

More than 300 exhibits were on show at the Memorial Hall as 28 contestants battled for supremacy in the vegetables and fruit, cookery and handicrafts categories.

Chairman of the club, John Hollis, said: “It was absolutely excellent and well patronised by the local people.”

“It is about the best show we have put on.”

The show’s main winners in the gardening categories were Graham Morgan and Keith Boxall.

Mr Morgan won first prize with a good collection of vegetables and fruit in that category and in the top table competition (a collection of six vegetables) along with third prize for flowers and plants. “Show class” dahlias won Mr Boxall the Dahlia Cup together with first prize in the flowers and plants.

Another multiple prize-winner was Ann Mundy who came second in the flowers and plants and third in photography.

Other winners included Julie Walker for cookery, Donna Pearce for handicrafts and Tim Hill for photography.

In the junior exhibitions Miss S Baird won the eight and under category, Harry Oliver was placed first in the 9 – 12s and Miss J Kirwan first for the 13 -16s.

All winners received a cash prize, trophy and certificate.

The annual competition is organised by the club’s committee and is sponsored by local business people.
