THE HIGHWAYS Agency is urging motorists across Andover to check their tyres ahead of the colder months.
The warning comes after new figures revealed that 1,800 tyre-related incidents, including punctures and blow-outs, took place on the UK’s roads last winter.
Experts have released the statistics as part of Tyre Safety Month, with this year’s campaign focusing on tyre tread.
Drivers are encouraged to test their tyre tread depth regularly by inserting a 20 pence piece into the grooves.
If the outer rim of the coin is visible then your tyres should be checked by a professional.
Simon Sheldon-Wilson, director of customer operations at the Highways Agency, said: “By checking your tyres at least once a month, you can make sure you have enough tread to control your vehicle in wet conditions and avoid aquaplaning at high speeds which could lead to disastrous consequences.”
