NURSERIES, child minders and other early years’ providers in Hampshire are set to receive a slice of a sixfigure cash goldmine.

The Government has given the green light to a £676,579 injection to help three and four-year-olds from disadvantaged families across the county.

The money, which forms part of the Early Years Pupil Premium introduced by the Liberal Democrats, will be handed out from April next year to make sure children from lowincome families get a fair start at school. Nurseries and schools will be free to choose how they spend the money, which forms part of a £50m Government pot across the UK.

Ben Nicholls, Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Romsey and Southampton North, said: “By investing over £676,000 in Hampshire to help the most disadvantaged three and four-year-olds, Lib Dems are ensuring that children are getting the best possible start in life.

“Evidence is clear that helping children as early as possible is key to making sure they do not fall behind.

That is why this announcement is fantastic news for children.”
