UKIP's leading lady is coming to Andover.

MEP and party spokeswoman for Home Affairs, Diane James, will visit the town on Saturday in a bid to ramp up support ahead of next May's general election.

Ms James will discuss an array of issues such as health and the European Union at a high street stall.

The politician, who famously ran Liberal Democrat MP Mike Thornton close in the 2013 Eastleigh by-election, will be in Andover High Street from 11am before moving on to Tadley.

The move comes following UKIP county councillor Tony Hooke's pledge to “bring the big guns” to the town after he declared “war” on the Conservatives in the Advertiser last month.

Cllr Hooke said: “It's exciting for the town to have someone like Diane come to visit.

“She will be there alongside other people from UKIP who are all keen to give their support to the town because they know we have a fight on our hands.

“If you have half a mind to join the party and help move us forward in the next part of our journey then come along on Saturday.”
