Andover's official countdown to Christmas starts at 5pm tonight with the annual Christmas lights switch-on event in the High Street

A big screen will once again be positioned in front of the Guildhall so that young and old alike can enjoy a view of the evening’s planned entertainment on the main stage.

There will be a programme of performances from local artists and choirs including The Long Overdue Theatre School, Chasing Daisies, Portway Glee Club, John Hanson Community Choir, Dance Fit, Gray Smith and Claire-Marie Conlin, Steph Boulton and Chris Bernsten, and of course the one and only Father Christmas.

The countdown will begin at 7.30pm, culminating in the big switchon of the town’s Christmas lights, provided by Andover Town Council, followed swiftly by the Chantry Centre Firework Display.

With rides for the children plus festive attractions and some great food on offer including roast chestnuts, hog roast and bratwurst, the evening promises to kick-start the festive season in fine style.
