THE military have confirmed that six soldiers remain in hospital following a collision on Salisbury Plain last night.

In a joint statement released by the British and Indian Army they confirm that the road traffic collision involving three large troop carriers took place in the vicinity of Larkhill shortly after 6pm.

Soldiers were participating in Exercise Ajeya Warrior, an Indian and UK Army exchange training exercise held every year.

The joint statement by Brigadier Martyn Gamble, Commander 160th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Wales, and Brigadier Rajesh Kumar, Military Adviser, High Commission of India, London, said: "A number of soldiers were injured in the incident. Casualties were treated at the scene and taken by emergency services to Southampton General and Salisbury District Hospitals. Others were treated at the Army Medical Centre at Westdown Camp.

"We confirm six soldiers remain in hospital. We continue to receive updates on their condition, but will not be commenting further. The families of those involved have been informed and our thoughts are with all those affected by the incident at this time."

"The British and Indian Armies would like to thank the emergency services for their outstanding response and the superb care they have administered to our soldiers."

The exercise involving both regular and reserve soldiers will be ongoing, helping to integrate the Indian Infantry into the British Army, while Wiltshire Police continue to investigate the incident.
