AGE UK is merging its Andover and Winchester branches to form a single super support group, and is now on the hunt for a new £40,000 pro-rata boss.

The charity said it was looking forward to “exciting times ahead” as it pulls together the two groups to form a new body to be called Age UK Mid Hampshire.

It says it is merging the branches to “help improve popular services and introduce new ones”, and is now searching for a new chief executive and chairman to lead it.

The chief executive officer will work three days a week and will be paid £40,000 pro rata, according to the job advert, while the chair of trustees will be expected to work 30 days a year and is unremunerated.

The two charities provide support to 1,500 older people each year, running lunch clubs, befriending services and home help, and say demand for its services is “is growing rapidly”.

Chairman of Age UK Andover & District, Clive Bagwell, said: “The new charity should be in place later this year and our first step will be finding the right chief executive and a new chairman to help set up Age UK Mid Hampshire and then lead it forward.

“Whoever is appointed will be supported by a board of existing trustees from Winchester and Andover and we are looking for new trustees with energy and ideas to join us.”

John Edwards, chairman of Age UK Winchester, welcomed the changes.

He said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our two charities to step up their work for older people.

“So many elderly people already rely on what we do and we believe, that by joining forces as Age UK Mid Hampshire, we will be able to do even more.

“This will include increasing the capacity of our existing services and also introducing new ones.

“Eventually we plan to extend our work into adjoining parts of Hampshire where these services don’t exist at the moment.

“The existing services in Winchester and Andover will continue to run by the same excellent staff and the wonderful volunteers who support them.

“We will also be retaining offices in both towns.”
