THE mother of an Andover College student, who was rushed to hospital after being knocked off her motorbike on Weyhill Road last week, has thanked the witnesses who rushed to her daughter’s aid.

Angela Platt, from Ludgershall, says she is “entirely grateful” to a group of thoughtful bystanders who took care of her daughter Mirren, after she was struck by a delivery van while riding home from college.

Mirren was rushed to Salisbury Hospital following the crash, which took place at the junction between Weyhill Road and Coldbrook Way on the evening of Wednesday, November 4.

Initially doctors thought the mechanics student had broken her leg but luckily Mirren only suffered bruising and is said to be recovering well in the comfort of her home.

Mrs Platt, who tragically lost her son Jamie in a motorbike accident in 2013, now wishes to thank those who helped Mirren at the scene by comforting her, providing first aid and calling an ambulance.

The 43-year-old said: “I know the man in the car behind her helped because he was first aid trained and a lady who lived in one of the houses nearby cameout to help because she was a first responder.

“There were other people there as well directing traffic away and I know they held a tarpaulin over her to keep her dry while they waited for the emergency services to arrive.

“I’m entirely grateful to everyone who helped her.

“They did really well to keep her calm and settled until the ambulance got there.”

She added: “I think it shows what a great place Andover is.

“I think in other places you would have got one or two people who would have helped but the number of people who stopped to help was amazing.

“We are so so thankful.”
