ANDOVER Carnival Committee’s popular pancake race will not be held in Andover High Street this year.
The organisers have pulled the plug on this year’s event, due to take place on Shrove Tuesday, but have vowed to return next year with a bigger event at half term. Committee member Iris Andersen said the decision was made to shift the event to a more family friendly day during half term.
“We were going to go ahead with it, but with the different things going on with the weather we decided to cancel this year’s event and revamp it for next year,” said Iris.
“We had a big discussion and decided to hold it during half term so that families and children can take part too. I got so many requests for children to take part we just thought this was the way forward.
“We didn’t want to cancel it, we are sorry, it’s certainly not through a lack of interest.
“We are very grateful to all the businesses that support us and take part, and we hope that they will join us next year.”
Each year all the money raised from the races goes towards the carnival’s nominated charities for the year.
