SUPERMARKET giants Aldi say a mid-August launch could be on the cards for their new Andover store and have confirmed that the search for staff has already begun.

The German retailer confirmed to the Andover Advertiser this week that an online job advert for 20 store assistants at their new Weyhill Road store is genuine.

The discount supermarket, who are developing the store on the site of a former Peugeot garage, have also confirmed plans to officially open the store in mid-August.

However a spokesperson has said that this is still ‘an estimate’.

In the advert, posted on website Gumtree, Aldi say they are looking for people to work in their ‘really fast pace environment’ as well as providing ‘excellent customer service at all times’.

The supermarket giants, who were given planning permission for the site in September last year, are advertising a starting salary of £8.40 an hour.

Aldi are also offering a mixture of contracts from 20 hours and up to 40 hours per week.

Selected applicants will be invited to a work trial in the retailer’s Amesbury store, where successful candidates will train ahead of the store’s grand opening.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We are looking forward to opening our store in Andover and making Aldi’s awardwinning offer easily accessible to shoppers across the region.

“Further details regarding the opening date and jobs for the local community will be available in due course.”

Interested applicants should call and submit their CV to Aldi’s Area Manager Tom Bend: 07712 321851.
