A FIELD fire off the Salisbury Road saw 70 tonnes of baled hay go up in smoke last night.

Fire crews from Andover were on the scene for seven hours until midnight after receiving the report of a fire at around 5pm near to where the road passes under under the A303.

A single pump was dispatched from Andover and firefighters monitored the haystack as it burned to make sure the blaze did not get out of control.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue have confirmed that it is expected to continue burning for the next 24 hours.

It is understood that no-one was injured during the incident and it is not known what caused the fire.
