AN ANNUAL charity golf day, organised by a son in memory of his late father, has raised £10,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

The tenth annual Alan Potter Golf Day took place at The High Post Golf Club, near Salisbury, earlier this year.

The event is organised by Andy Kingman, Neil Wells and Simon Potter, and is held in memory of the latter’s father, Alan Potter, who died in October 2005 after a battle with prostate cancer.

So far the yearly event has raised over £120,000 for prostate cancer research. The most recent day was held in the usual format of a Texas scramble with a total of 23 teams entering.

The slightly damp and overcast day started with a shotgun start at 10am with some good golf throughout.

It was a very tight match, but VES Ltd ran out as eventual winners.

The golf was followed by a raffle and a sealed bid auction, with Stuart Masters announcing the winners of the bids.

After the auction, the organising trio met with Jack Bacon from Prostate Cancer UK, to hand over the most recent £10,000 donation.

Talking about the event, Simon Potter said: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who takes part in the event, because without them this wouldn’t be successful or possible.

“The event is not just about raising money for charity but also about raising awareness too.

“It’s great to raise this much money but it’s almost as important to raise awareness of prostate cancer.”
