AN Andover beggar has been jailed for five months after breaching a criminal behaviour order.

Anthony Jenkyn Williams was given a custodial sentence for a total of 21 weeks when he appeared in Basingstoke Magistrates' Court recently after admitting breaching the order and theft of alcohol from Marks and Spencer.

As previously reporter by the Advertiser, the 43-year-old was made the subject of the order in October preventing him from begging in the town centre.

Appearing before magistrates he admitted to breaching the order by begging in Andover on five occasions last month.

Williams, of The Bridge, also admitted to stealing alcohol worth £250 from Marks and Spencer on seven occasions and alcohol of an unknown value from Sainsbury's on two occasions.

He was sentenced to a total of 21 weeks in prison due to his prolific offending and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
