Opening hours at Andover Leisure Centre are unchanged this week after previously planned alterations were cancelled due to asbestos being found.

The construction of the new Andover Leisure Centre is progressing well with the next phase of the build project involving the demolition of the old sports hall to make way for construction of the new facility.

Demolition of the old sports hall was due to commence on Wednesday, 20 September but to complete the works as quickly as possible and to ensure the safety of staff and customers, the weekday opening hours at the leisure centre were to be temporarily modified between the September 20 and 29.

However, due to asbestos being discovered in the sports hall, and the need to ensure its safe removal, further works are required ahead of the proposed demolition, and therefore the changed hours are now not necessary.

The new Andover Leisure Centre will include a 165-station fitness suite, cycling studio, 25m six lane pool with learner pool, dance studios, sports hall, squash courts, adventure play area and a café.

Due to the impending closure for the demolition of the Sports Hall, current headline membership at the centre is being reduced from £39 to £33.15 which will remain through until April 2018, when all prices will be reviewed.

This reduced rate is valid for existing and new members alike.

The temporary pool is due to open at the end of September.  The new centre is set to open in spring 2019.
