Police have arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm in the Junction Road area this morning.
Armed officers and response officers were called to a Wessex Gardens home at 9.46am following concerns of a man's welfare.
Police say he had threatened to harm himself.
The man came out of the property at 10.58am and was being dealt with by police.
He has since been arrested.
A resident who did not wish to be named told the Advertiser: "I was talking to some workmen and the police told them all to move away and come out to the bottom of the road, so they seemed quite concerned."
A police spokesperson added there was no wider risk to the public during the incident.
