PLANS to expand Picket Piece by building a further 22 homes in the area have been submitted.

Foreman Homes has submitted a planning application to Test Valley Borough Council to develop an area north of 10 Walworth Road.

Submitted to the authority last week, the plans feature two two-bedroom houses, 10 three-bedrooms properties and two four-or-more-bedroom dwellings.

The application also includes social housing of two one-bedroom flats, two two-bedroom flats and four two-bedroom houses.

It also proposes to build 50 on-site car parking spaces.

The 0.79 hectares site is currently an open field.

The proposed site is also adjacent to another site in which Foreman Homes has submitted a planning application to the council to build 91-homes.

As previously reported by The Advertiser, Andover town councillors took issue with the 91-home development plan in the area which was submitted earlier this year.

TVBC ward councillor John Cockaday, who attended the town council meeting when the 91-home plan was discussed, said: “Looking at the plans for the moment I’m concerned about the traffic coming out onto Walworth Road.”

The 91-home plans included building housing on grazing land opposite Walworth Road, complete with a village green and a community orchard.

However the suggested layout caused concerns among committee members.

The 36 social houses proposed were a hot topic, with a large cluster of them being put together by the railway line.

Andover town councillor, Cllr Luigi Gregori said the homes were deliberately designed to be cheap, while Cllr Veronica Pond said the social housing layout was a ‘ghetto’.

Councillors compared it to a previously refused application to build 22 homes in the same area.

TVBC’s Northern Area Planning Committee has yet to set a date to discuss either application.
