FOUR local schools battled it out at the Andover Rotary Youth Speaks competition on Thursday last week.
In the local round of the national competition, John Hanson School, Rookwood School, Test Valley School and Winton Academy teams gave presentations in front of students, parents, friends and Rotarians.
The Winton Academy team were declared the winners following a “thought-provoking” presentation on “how terrorism has affected our view of society”.
The Year 10 debate trio, Tom Yates, Luis Wyatt and Roman Pitman, competed in the intermediate category, and Roman also bagged the trophy for best speaker in the evening.
Individual awards were also given to John Hanson’s Klaudia Daniel for best chairman and Test Valley School’s Keshni Bhoodhoo for best proposer.
The evening was organised by Andover Rotary Club, and was judged by chairman David Kessel, Mayor of Test Valley Councillor Carl Borg-Neal and Viv Philpot.
The next group round of the competition will take place Wednesday, 21 February 2018 at 5pm at Test Valley School, in Roman Road, Stockbridge.
