THEY spend their day jobs improving and repairing Hampshire’s main roads and dual carriageways – and now they have piled on the pedal power for a good cause.

Workers from highways maintenance company Amey got on their bikes for the Saddle Up ride to raise funds for Naomi House Children’s Hospice, at Sutton Scotney.

The team, joined by Hampshire County Council staff, sub-contractors and local suppliers, covered a 90-mile route starting and finishing at the company’s Petersfield depot and visiting its Micheldever, Bishop’s Waltham and Totton bases.

They raised more than £5,000 for the hospice, which was topped up to £7,300 following a donation from Amey’s parent company Ferrovial.

Amey account director David Ogden hailed their efforts as an “amazing achievement” and added: “It was wonderful to see so many colleagues making the time during their weekend to support an incredible charity, and having fun together.

“Thank you to everyone who took part, and also to all the people behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to pull the bike ride together.”

Naomi House charity corporate fundraiser Tina Starbuck said: “The money raised will help to ensure we can provide the best possible service to the children, young people and families who come to Naomi House and Jacksplace.”
