BASINGSTOKE Mencap will hold a job fair on Wednesday in a bid to encourage more local organisations to hire people with learning disabilities across the borough.

The ASPIRE Job Club was set up by Basingstoke Mencap and the Rotary Club of Basingstoke as a way to work with jobseekers with learning disabilities and local employers with the aim of improving employment figures in the borough.

Only nine per cent of people with learning disabilities are employed in Hampshire meaning that a large number of young people with learning disabilities are leaving schools and colleges with very limited opportunities.

Local employers, including Sainsbury’s, Basingstoke Sports Centre and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, will be attending the job fair between 9.30am and 11.30am at The Orchard, in White Hart Lane, Basingstoke.

Any jobseeker with a learning disability can join the session.
