A FORMER Basingstoke student has won an award for a TV sequence filmed as part of his course.

Jacob Brown, who left Queen Mary’s College, in Cliddesden Road, Basingstoke this summer was awarded the Best TV Sequence accolade at the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC) Moving Image Awards last month.

The 18 year-old wowed judges with his two-minute opening sequence entitled “Ezra” which he made as part of his media course at the college.

The Moving Image Awards recognises the talent of young people who are producing moving imagery. Over 650 entries were received across the four categories – Short Film, Film Sequence, TV Sequence and Music Video – at this year’s event.

And Jacob, of Pyotts Copse, in Old Basing, attended the star-studded ceremony at the British Film Institute, in London, with media lecturer Lee Bone.

Guests were treated to a talk from one of the UK’s top directors, Joe Cornish, who was responsible for film such as Hot Fuzz, The Adventures of TinTin and Attack The Block.

Jacob, who is now studying a media and English degree at Goldsmiths University, in London, told The Gazette: “For our coursework we had to do an opening sequence for a TV crime drama.

“We got the coursework and had two-and-a-half months to do it but I started to work on it with a month to go so it took about a month.

“It was good fun and I was very proud to be awarded. It was a good experience and it was because it was at the BFI so my short sequence got shown on the big screen which was quite cool.”
