STAR names have been recruited to help Hampshire County Council and its partners step up their campaign to recruit more drivers for community transport schemes.
Three short films featuring local celebrities, including Southampton FC legend Matt Le Tissier and TV Ground Force star Charlie Dimmock, show the real difference volunteer drivers make to the lives of members of their communities who can no longer drive themselves.
Community transport is provided to help people who cannot use mainstream transport services for whatever reason.
Transport provided by community organisations is vital for many people to help them access health services, do the shopping or visit friends and relatives.
The Volunteer Driver campaign was launched by Hampshire County Council in 2012 and aimed to increase the number of volunteer drivers to help transport those in need, within their own local community, to get about and maintain their independence.
The campaign is being led by the county council in partnership with Hampshire Volunteer Centres, CVS Network and the Good Neighbours Support Service. To find out more visit hants.gov.uk/volunteerdrivers.
