A BASINGSTOKE couple will finally have the honeymoon of their dreams after they were announced as the first winners of £1million in the EuroMillions draw last Friday.

David Mackie, 32, and wife Sam, who is 28, scooped £1million in last Friday’s EuroMillions Mega Friday draw.

The couple’s big win was announced this morning at Tylney Hall, in Hook after they purchased a ticket by chance on Friday after David opened his computer to find the National Lottery website on the screen.

The couple told this morning’s conference that Sam usually buys the tickets but David decided to get one for the EuroMillions draw that day.

He then received an email the following morning telling him he had exciting news.

David, who is an IT manager, said: “I called my wife but she didn’t believe me. Once she saw my face, and I think I was shaking by this point, she decided to check.

“We both logged off and back on again to the account and the message was still there. I then had to wait 15 minutes to call Camelot and that was when it started to become real.”

The 32-year-old added: “This is an amazing opportunity and the more we found out about the trip, the more we realised what a big deal it was.”

In addition to the bank-boosting cash, the couple, who are parents to two young boys, won a 14-day luxury trip to Australia’s Sunshine Coast for themselves and seven of their friends.

The couple, who got married two-and-a-half years ago, never had a honeymoon so are looking forward to the trip which will see them treated to a private chef, cruise and personal spa treatments.

David and Sam, who is currently on maternity leave from her position as a dental nurse, have already started the process of buying a new home.
