A BASINGSTOKE-based housing association has made it to the final of a national competition for the regeneration of a housing development in Oakridge.

Sentinel Housing Association has reached the final of the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards in the Social Housing Developments category, along with their partner Hill.

The awards celebrate the best of the construction industry and Sentinel’s regeneration of the New Horizons development, in Oakridge and they will be competing for the award alongside social housing developments in Glasgow, south London and Edinburgh.

The £20million regeneration project, which will replace 90 outdated maisonettes with 190 new homes, began in July 2013. Open space, play areas and parking at the development will also be improved.

The first phase is due to be finished by March 2015 with the second phase expected to be completed in spring 2016.

In total, the development will have 67 two and three-bedroom homes for low-cost ownership, 69 two and three-bedroom homes for social rent and 54 two, three and four-bedrooms homes for affordable rent.

Sentinel’s development director, Mike Shepherd, said: “It’s great to be shortlisted, along with our partners Hill, for the Premier Excellence Awards.

“The workmanship and attention to detail, on our new homes, is key to our ambition to deliver quality homes where people want to live.

“And working with Premier has really helped us achieve this. The shortage of affordable homes in the UK has led to a well publicised housing crisis over recent years, so we’re doing all we can to build high quality homes and vibrant, sustainable communities.”

The award ceremony will take place on Friday at London’s iconic Heron Tower.
