THIS week an intrepid runner is completing five marathons to raise funds for charity in memory of his stillborn daughter.

Lee Ocean, who lives in Tenzing Gardens, in Popley, is completing the gruelling challenge, clocking up 132 miles for Tommy’s. The charity funds research into pregnancy problems and provides information to parents, along with stillbirth and neonatal death charity Sands.

“I’m on target to raise £2,500 for the charities,” said Lee, who is suffering from quite a few blisters on his feet.

But he said this is a small price to pay.

The 34 year-old sales manager, who works for Logicalis in Slough, and his partner Genevieve Baldwin lost their daughter Imogen Eliza in March 2013 at 41 weeks.

Sadly, the couple are no longer together.

Keen to focus on the memory of his daughter, Lee said: “It will be Imogen’s birthday on Monday.

“I’ve been training since May and have been running between 70 to 90 miles a week.”

Pleased with his first day’s efforts, Lee completed the first course in five hours and eight minutes.

“I could probably run quicker if I was just doing one marathon – it’s about managing the balance being able to do five in a decent time.”

Fuelled by a high carb diet, Lee is running 26.4 miles along three different routes.

He is alternating two routes which involve running circuits around Chineham Park and Hampshire International Park and Chineham, with a route where he runs through Bramley, heading to Mortimer and back down the A33 via Sherfield-on-Loddon, before heading home to Popley.

But on Friday he will run to Mortimer and then on to Rotherwick and Old Basing before running through Basingstoke and on to Worting Road Cemetery to Imogen’s grave.
