THE Duchess of Cambridge has met the behind-the-scenes staff who keep the stars of Downton Abbey looking flawless when filming begins.

Kate, who is known for her well-groomed appearance, met make-up artists and hairstylists when she toured the famous Ealing Studios where parts of the series are filmed.

She also met the show's creator, Lord Julian Fellowes, and shook hands with four-year-old Zac Barker, who plays George.

The award-winning ITV1 series is also filmed at, and was originally inspired by, Highclere Castle.

Downton Abbey's portrayal of life among the upper classes, and the exploits of the servants below stairs, has kept viewers enthralled. The fifth series, which ended late last year, was watched by an average audience of more than 10 million.

Kate, whose baby is due next month, wore an outfit from British maternity label Jojo Maman Bebe.

In the car park of Ealing Studios in west London were trailers featuring a range of facilities from hair and make-up to the wardrobe department.

In the cramped space of a trailer Kate met Nic Collins, a hair and make-up designer who was putting the finishing touches to Phyllis Logan, who plays housekeeper Mrs Hughes.
