FATHER Christmas arrived in style at a children’s hospice when he landed in the grounds in a helicopter.

Santa was transported to Naomi House Hospice in a Bell 212 helicopter – a modern day equivalent of the iconic Huey UH-1N – piloted by officers of the 7 Regiment Army Air Corps, based at RAF Middle Wallop.

A large crowd of children, young adults and their families watched as pilots made a perfect landing and Father Christmas stepped off the helicopter with a large sack of gifts.

The children were then given the chance to meet Santa while he enjoyed a mince pie and hot drink.

He gave each child a present before joining in with carols and games at the hospice, in Sutton Scotney.

The visit was part of an ongoing programme of fun and fascinating activities which take place at the hospice, ensuring that although the lives of youngsters visiting may be shortened, they need not be limited in enjoyment or fulfilment.

Huw Bromage, play team Leader at Naomi House and Jacksplace, said: “It was very exciting for the children and young people to see the helicopter arrive in the Naomi House garden, and to meet Father Christmas despite his busy schedule at this time of year.

“We are really grateful to the Army Air Corps for arranging the visit, and if they are flying past in the future, they should feel free to drop in. It goes without saying that the same applies for Father Christmas.”
