TRIBUTES have flooded in for a young man from Basingstoke who was found dead near the train tracks in Old Basing.

As reported in The Gazette, Daniel Mark Nicholson, 20, was found dead on February 9.

Hundreds of people left tributes on Facebook to the former Cliddesden Primary School pupil, as people reacted with shock to the news of his death.

Ella Mae Mcmurray said: “Dan was a kind young man who, when I had the pleasure of going to Cliddesden Primary School with him, was a soul not to be forgotten. I am still in shock.

Rest in peace Dan.”

An avid football fan, the 20-year-old played in the North East Hampshire Youth League with CSA 07 Warriors before playing Sunday League football with Chineham Athletic.

One of his former team mates Robbie Gregory posted: “One of the best midfielders I’ve ever played with, was a pleasure to play in the same team because you was a solid player. Thoughts are with his friends and family, going to be missed RIP mate.”

Tom Ryan also posted: “My brother Dan was a handsome young man with the world at his feet I can’t believe he’s gone but he is in a better place now. RIP to the best brother you could have asked for.”

Several other people, who had met Dan gave their condolences, Jade Foord commented: “RIP Dan sweetie, you will surely be missed.”

As reported last week, British Transport Police was alerted to a body near the tracks, after a train driver had made the grim discovery and alerted the signal guard.

North East Hampshire Coroner Andrew Bradley opened an inquest into the death of Mr Nicholson, to be heard at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on April 6.
