A TEMPORARY lane closure will be in place in a busy Basingstoke road while the final phase of water pipes improvements take place.

South East Water has laid 447 metres of new piping along a section of Winchester Road and Hatch Warren Roundabout as part of a £75,000 scheme but the water company now needs to carry out work to connect the new pipeline to the existing water network.

To keep motorists and its workforce safe, a lane closure along a section of Winchester Road at Hatch Warren Roundabout will be in place for two weeks, from Monday 4 September.

Matthew Cooper, project manager at South East Water, said: “The safety of motorists and our workforce is our top priority when carrying out work which is why we will need to have this temporary lane closure in operation.

“We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating which is why we have been working closely with the highways department at Hampshire County Council. This lane closure will keep traffic flowing through the area and keep disruption to a minimum.”

“We expect this work to take approximately two weeks to complete but our contractor will be working as safely and quickly as possible to complete this work.

“I would like to apologise for the disruption this work will cause but hope motorists and the local community understand the long term benefits this scheme will deliver.”
