A BASINGSTOKE-headquartered IT software firm has been announced as the new sponsor of the town's football club.

Original Software, based in Chineham, are sponsoring Basingstoke Town FC's first team for the 2017/18 season The deal will allow Original Software’s branding to be used on the rear of the first team shirts, as well as a number of advertising hoardings around the ground and the brand being publicised across the club’s digital platforms.

Original Software will also be sharing periodic updates with its customers across the globe as the season continues.

This is the latest development in the new look football club, which is going through a transitional period since chairman Rafi Razzak announced he would bring an end to his ongoing financial support to the club.

As previously reported in The Gazette, protests and campaigners fought to keep football in Basingstoke despite there being no interested parities in buying the club from Mr Razzak at the time.

However, this new deal is part of the club's move towards becoming a community club.

Will Wilkinson, Volunteer head of digital and marketing for Basingstoke Town said: "It’s fantastic to have a global business such as Original Software on board as a key sponsor for the club and we’re hoping for a prosperous season together. What is great is that Original Software absolutely recognise and buy into the future we’re trying to build at this club, one that puts the community first and that will mean we are sustainable for many years to come.

Colin Armitage, chief executive officer of Original Software, added: "We are delighted to support Basingstoke Town at this pivotal time and we look forward to their success both on the pitch and as importantly, as they become a true asset to the local community.”
