A THREE-year-old budding truck operator has been taken on as firm’s ‘youngest apprentice’.

Adam Blackwell is being invited to David Wilson Homes Southern’s Gillies Meadow development at various stages of build to see how the homes are progressing and will get to ‘oversee’ the construction of plot 215.

He will be able to see the plot at foundation level, when the roof goes on and then once it has been completed.

David Wilson Homes will be starting Adam a story book which will document Adam’s visits to the development and include a timeline of the plot.

Sales advisers at the development first met Adam when he made mum Emma stop outside the construction site every day so that he could watch the construction vehicles in action.

Adam was presented with a toy digger, hard hat and high visibility vest last year for his third birthday and has since been invited back to see how work is moving ahead.

Emma said: “Adam is thrilled to be part of this build. The way that David Wilson Homes have reciprocated and responded to Adam’s enthusiasm has been tremendous and we are grateful to them for giving him this opportunity.

“His relationship with the site to date has really stimulated his imagination and we are all excited to see how this new adventure will inspire him.

“Adam has always been interested in construction vehicles from a very early age, but certainly since they broke ground at the development.”

According to his mother, Adam loves his new hard hat so much that he wears it almost every day and shows it to everyone he sees. He hopes to drive dumper trucks and diggers as a career when he is older.

Paul Crispin, managing director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “Here at David Wilson Homes we are not only committed to building quality homes, but to supporting the local community in and around where we build.

“Following on from Adam’s last visit, we wanted to invite him back and really give him an insight into what happens on a building site and how the homes go from foundation level to being complete.

“We are always encouraging youngsters to consider a career in construction and we are delighted that Adam is showing an interest already and is enjoying this project with us.”
