A MUSICIAN set to perform at the royal wedding this weekend will be part of the Anvil's 25th anniversary celebrations next year.

The Anvil is marking the special anniversary with a Gala Concert performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra with the Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who recently announced that he has been selected to play at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday.

The 19-year-old cellist made history in 2016 when he became the first black winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.

After winning Young Musician, Sheku recorded an album of classical pieces and arrangements of modern songs. It made number one in the classical chart and 18 in the main chart, making him the youngest ever cellist to feature in the countdown.

The Anvil’s Birthday Gala Concert on Friday, 3 May will be conducted by Martyn Brabbins and includes Elgar’s Cello Concerto, performed by Sheku, and Enigma Variations as well as Brabbins’ Here and There, plus a new work by Samantha Fernando commissioned for the occasion.

Tickets are on sale now. Call the Anvil Arts box office on 01256 844244 or visit anvilarts.org.uk for more information.
