BASINGSTOKE and Deane Borough Council and its bin collection contractor Veolia have apologised for ‘any inconvenience caused’ after issues with bin collections.

The council posted on its Facebook page on Tuesday that it is ‘currently experiencing operational issues with bin collections in some areas of the borough. Our contractor Veolia is working hard to resolve these issues and collect residents’ bins on their scheduled day’.

The council advises that if residents’ grey, green, glass box or green waste is not collected on the day it should be, they should go to basingstoke.gov.uk/service-updates where the council will list any incomplete rounds for the day.

If the street in question is listed, leave the bin out for collection. If the street is not listed as an incomplete round, call 01256 844844 or email customer.service@basingstoke.gov.uk.

Commenters on social media have claimed there have been issues across the borough including in Old Basing, Sherfield Park, Winklebury and Tadley.

An update issued today gave the same information, adding: "Together with Veolia we apologise for the inconvenience caused."

A statement issued on Monday from cabinet member for the environment and regulatory services Cllr Hayley Eachus read: “We have been experiencing operational issues with bin collections in some areas of the borough. Our contractor Veolia is working hard to resolve these issues and collect residents’ bins on their scheduled day. However, there may be some occasions when they are unable to collect as planned and will return the following day instead. Together with our contractor Veolia we apologise for the inconvenience caused and ask people to check our website for service updates."
