PLANS to make a temporary school building in Tadley permanent are set to be given the go-ahead.
County council school chiefs say Burnham Copse Primary School needs the single-storey modular building so it can continue to provide pre–school places for children attending its nursery provision.
The current temporary classroom was granted a time-limited planning consent which has now expired.
The building, originally put up in September 2013, is also used for the school’s Breakfast Club, for after-school activities, and holiday clubs.
However, in a report to Hampshire County Council’s Regulatory Committee, Judith Smallman said: “Whilst it is acknowledged that there is a visual and amenity impact on nearby local residential properties, this is considered insufficient to outweigh the need for the pre-school places created by the proposal.
“It is considered that the development would not materially harm the character of the area and provides a service and building that is durable, adaptable and able to respond to changing social and economic conditions and required by the community.”
The module “pop-up” school building is not attached to the main school structure, and is divided into two sections – one for before- and after-school activities, and the other is for pre-school learning.
The decision will be made by Hampshire County Council's Regulatory Committee on September 12 in Winchester.
